The city of Woodstock takes great pride in the history of the community. Woodstock maintains some light industry for revenue, but is basically a quaint little city with wrought iron park benches and tree-lined streets.
Housing
Local ordinances require all new construction to have garages, and must remain below three stories in height.
Transportation
The Metra commuter train stops in Woodstock periodically with commuter service to downtown Chicago in an hour and twenty minutes. Local bus service is available within the area. The Northwest Tollway provides access to and from the city. The closest interchange is located 12 miles south of town.
Schools
District 200 houses six elementary schools, two junior highs and one high school. The curriculum provides special education and vocational programs in addition to honors classes at the high school level.
Shopping
Local shops consist of small specialty stores. Nearby Crystal Lake is the retail center of McHenry County featuring over 300 stores.
Recreation
The Woodstock Recreation Division provides a variety of programs for all ages. A newsletter is published four times a year to keep residents informed of seasonal activities.
