Separated by Ogden Avenue, the twin communities of LaGrange (South of Ogden) and LaGrange Park, date back over a century. Residents enjoy easy access to the many attractions and employment opportunities of urban Chicago, yet a traditional small-town suburban feel prevails throughout the well-maintained neighborhoods of charming older homes and tree-lined streets.
Transportation
Commuter trains from two LaGrange area stations provide service to the Chicago Loop. Commuter bus service also serves the general area. Major arteries, including the Eisenhower (I-290) and Stevenson (I-55) Expressways, and the Tri-State (I-294) Tollway, are just minutes away.
Schools
LaGrange is home to three elementary schools and three junior high schools. LaGrange Park has three elementary and one junior high. High school students from both communities attend Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, where a 105-year tradition of scholastic excellence is enhanced by 13 academic departments offering a total of 300 courses. LaGrange Park residents falling within Proviso Township attend Riverside Brookfield High School. Nearby private and parochial schools offer an alternative to public education.
Shopping
LaGrange boasts a large integrated shopping district of outdoor cafes, boutiques and popular retail shops. Major shopping outlets include the Oakbrook Center and Yorktown Shopping Mall.
Recreation
A unified Park District offers programs for all ages. Schedules for seasonal activities are printed quarterly and are available through local schools, libraries and the village hall. A weekly outdoor concert series, “Music Under the Stars,” is held in Memorial Park each summer. An enormous YMCA facility, twelve nearby golf courses and Brookfield Zoo, just two miles to the east, are among other local recreational attractions.
Hospitals
LaGrange Memorial Hospital is a level II trauma center specializing in open-heart surgery, cardiac catheterization and diverse rehabilitation programs. The hospital also has a Women’s clinic with locations in LaGrange, Hinsdale, Bolingbrook and Lemont.
