Planned in part by Frederick Olmsted, the designer of New York’s Central Park, Clarendon Hills is a “picture book small-town community.” Not quite two square miles in size, the village projects a distinct charm and style of its own. Residents and local organizations take an active role in maintaining the beauty of their community. The Lions Club sponsors annual events with gardening clubs who maintain the village triangle, a large flower garden on Main Street.

Transportation
Express rail service to the Loop is available from the local station via the Burlington Northern railroad. Drivers will find I-88, I-294 and I-55 equally convenient. Local bus service is available in and around the area.

Schools
District 181 houses two elementary schools. A Catholic grade school and a Montessori pre-school provide local alternatives. High schoolers generally attend Hinsdale Central High School in District 86, known for excellence in both academics and athletics. Complete day care facilities also serve the area.

Shopping
Major shopping is available at the nearby Oak Brook Center, an exclusive outdoor mall featuring 160 stores including Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor, Neiman Marcus, Marshall Field’s and Sears. Yorktown Mall, in nearby Lombard features 130 stores, anchored by Carson Pirie Scott. Shopping is enhanced by a number of lovely local boutiques, specialty stores and small businesses.

Recreation
Four parks, two man-made lakes, a golf course, tennis courts and several playgrounds are maintained within the village. The Clarendon Hills Lions Club plays an active role in the community by coordinating seasonal events, tree plantings, and participating in community betterment programs.

Hospitals
Medical care is provided by Hinsdale Hospital, a 459-bed facility employing over 500 physicians. Specialties include a cancer center, cardiac care, and comprehensive rehabilitation. LaGrange Memorial Hospital also serves the community with a 274-bed facility and a medical staff of 375. This level II trauma center specializes in heart, cancer, and senior care.
